Be humble

At the same time, a good leader is humble. Not meek, but humble. This mainly means that you acknowledge you do not know everything and may learn new things as you go. Others may have good suggestions — even better than your plan — which you should consider.

In general, it’s good to continuously incorporate new information as it is available. Much of the time, if you planned well, the new information will confirm or enhance your plan. Occasionally, it will cause you to question your plan. You do not want to be constantly changing course, but you should be open to changing course when appropriate.

People on your team will come to you with ideas and critiques. Your job as a leader is to consider those, evaluate them, and act or not act on them. Don’t let your ego prevent you from acting when you should. Don’t let indecision prevent you from moving forward.
